By investigating the progress of international and domestic gender-based violence (GBV) prevention efforts, we found that the promotion and implementation of prevention strategies are closely tied to social advocacy initiatives.  Just as the Trans-national Initiative Network serves as the main driver of the dissemination and overview of policies, local advocacy movements are a key factor to successful prevention efforts.  Given the rarity of advocacy groups, TCAV launched the Development of Gender-Based Violence Prevention Strategies project in 2014, marking the first initiative on assisting women's organizations in understanding the local contexts of prevention efforts and areas of need.  Furthermore, through this project, we hope to nurture advocacy leaders and establish local resource networks.

Gender-Based Violence Prevention Advocacy Campaign:

(1)  Protection services — collaborative approaches taken by the government and civic groups

• In addition to collecting suggestions from civic groups, we also gather feedback from public sectors. Via a person-centred approach, we hope to include the perspectives of various stakeholders, encourage active participation, facilitate discussions, and promote behavioural changes, thereby developing a shared objective and realizing a common vision. Furthermore, a person-centered approach can lend to establishing positive collaborative relationships..

(2)  Cultivation of self-knowledge in social workers

(3)  Delving into rural areas to develop and build the capacity of local women's groups

• In order to enhance professional services and advocacy skills, cultivate local leaders, facilitate dialogues between women's groups, civic organizations, local domestic violence comittees, and women's right committee, as well as to actively involve the public in policy making, we assist local organizations in understanding the local contexts of prevention efforts and areas of need.

(4)  Municipal advocacy campaigns on GBV and training in prevention strategies

• With the goal of building community capacities, we strive to enhance knowledge of and prevention strategies on domestic violence and sexual assault in women's groups, apply the core values of social advocacy and prevention indicators in advocacy movements, and compile local challenges and needs on domestic violence and sexual assault. Through these actions, we will be able to respond to local needs and provide recommendations in the policy-making process.
